Use of Race, Ethnicity, and Ancestry as Population Descriptors in Genomics Research

This public workshop is part of a consensus study that will review and assess existing methodologies, benefits, and challenges in the use of race and ethnicity and other population descriptors in genomics research.

Health Technology to Reduce Burnout

This meeting of the National Academy of Medicine’s Action Collaborative on Clinician Well-Being and Resilience will highlight innovations with promise for rapid implementation and broad scale that are available now and hear from implementers who have successfully deployed technologies at their institutions to reduce provider burden, among other objectives.

Implementing and Evaluating Wildlife Crossings
April 14
Highway conditions can expose wild animals and drivers to harmful collisions. Speakers at this webinar will address how state departments of transportation mitigate harms through the use of wildlife crossings, and discuss how economic, engineering, and ecological considerations factor into decision-making processes.

Advancing Practical Strategies for Obesity Solutions

This workshop will explore the connections between structural racism, health communication, biased mental models/social norms, and obesity, and their interactions with the evidence base and workforce, to uncover practical strategies for intervention.

Climate Conversations: Sea Level Rise
April 21
People, infrastructure, and property along U.S. coastlines are already threatened by rising seas, which are projected to rise by an additional foot on average in the next 30 years. This event will discuss how coastal managers and communities are experiencing and responding to sea level rise now, and how they are planning for the future.

Suicide Prevention in Indigenous Communities
April 22
This is the first webinar in a three-part series on suicide prevention in Indigenous communities. Sessions will cover topics such as the differences between and among groups and tribes geographically, culturally, and linguistically; and cultural knowledge, practice, and ceremony, and how these act in parallel to behavioral health intervention and suicide prevention.

Identifying Individuals, Populations, and Communities at High Risk for Suicide

This is the first webinar in a three-part series on current practices, opportunities, and risks associated with innovative data science approaches to assess suicide risk in individuals, populations, and communities. This webinar will focus on current approaches used by social media platforms, technology companies, and researchers to determine suicide risk in individuals and communities.

Release dates for the following consensus reports and proceedings from the National Academies depend on successful completion of the review process and publishing schedules. Reporters who would like to be notified when a report is due for release should contact the Office of News and Public Information (e-mail news@nas.edu) and ask to be placed on a contact list.

Evaluating Success Among People Released from Prison
This report assesses the strengths and limitations of recidivism measures, and examines other measures that can be used to evaluate success among people released from prison.

Origins, Worlds, and Life: A Decadal Strategy for Planetary Science and Astrobiology 2023-2032
This report assesses key scientific questions in planetary science and astrobiology, identifies priority medium- and large-class missions and other initiatives, and presents a comprehensive research strategy for the next decade.

A Vision and Roadmap for Education Statistics
This report presents a vision and recommends future activities for the National Center for Education Statistics, a program within the U.S. Department of Education responsible for collecting, analyzing, and disseminating education statistics.
